Membership

Joining the Unitarian Universalist Church of Augusta (UUCA) is simple.  There’s no dogmatic litmus test. However, in taking this step you are making a commitment to join your talents, resources and energy with ours in a spiritual quest that is practical, personal and social.

If you would like to join our congregation our Membership Committee will help you get acquainted. There is no formal conversion process, so becoming a a member of our congregation is simply a matter of self-identification.

First Steps

When you visit our Sunday service, we encourage you to sign the guest book so we can send you materials by mail or email. (We won’t give others your address, ever. We will not put you on our newsletter mailing list unless you request that.)

You can attend UUFC services or any other activities as a visitor as long as you want. You are always welcome. If you would like to join the church, please contact the minister or any member of our Membership Committee. They can advise you about the next opportunity to attend the Pathway to Membership classes, which give the background of our faith tradition as well as an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about what membership means. These classes take place bi-monthly. Once you sign the membership book you’ll be formally welcomed at a Sunday service in a New Member Ceremony.

Membership is important in UU congregations because our polity is based upon democracy and autonomy, so our congregations decide all matters of importance, including the calling of ministers, approving the annual budget, etc.

If you choose to join our church fellowship,  we’ll schedule a Sunday service at which you’ll be formally welcomed.
